Parent Support Group Available to anyone raising children. This group will meet each Tuesday in the Family Support Council Resource Room from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The group is facilitated by Joyce Parton and covers topics that are directed toward the needs of the group. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Open to any grandparent who is raising grandchildren, on either a short term or long term basis. Grandparents meet at the Senior Center, 302 Cappes Street behind the Dalton Regional Library at 12:00 noon on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. A free lunch is available on site. This group provides support and resources for the grandparents and has occasional guest speakers. Spanish Parent Talk Meets Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Resource Room at the Family Support Council. This group is for Spanish speaking parents seeking support and help with parenting issues. Free childcare is provided. Narcotics Anonymous Two groups meet, one on Saturday at noon and one on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Call 706-279-9974 for more information or call toll free at 888-479-9696.
The Family Support Council is located at 1529 Waring Road, in front of Shaw Plant, #6. Turn onto Waring Road by Wheeler's Lumber on Cleveland Hwy, it is the second building on the left, across from the Waffle House. _______________________________________________ Prenatal Class at Whitfield County Health Department A class for mothers-to-be is held the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the Whitfield County Health Department. On average, 12 participants attend the class. _________________________________________________ Camps, Camps, and More Camps!!! Camp A.I.M. This annual therapeutic camp is offered for children who are victims of abuse. Camp A.I.M. provides a safe, professionally-staffed day camp experience for children referred by locally helping agencies. Camp Promise Camp Promise is a week-long day camp for parents and children that uses the Nurturing Program curriculum to guide fun and educational activities. The program is unique among family programs in that both parents and children participate and learn. The program is entirely replicable for other sites and programs. For information about next year's camp, or replication information, call Elaine Butler or Joyce Morrison at the Family Support Council at 272-7919. Camp LaPapillon Teen parents gain valuable life skills during this fun, one week camp that includes child care. This is a great opportunity to learn about important things like parenting, financial management, nutrition, job skills, community resources, and other topics.
